Family Ski Holidays

Verbier is a cosmopolitan resort in Switzerland, which attracts the rich and famous to its luxury ski chalets and fantastic skiing. Verbier is a fantastic destination for family ski holidays if you are looking for a lively village bursting with shops and restaurants combined with excellent skiing. Another benefit of Verbier for families is that it is just 2 hours from Geneva, long transfers are not normally ideal with children in tow, and discounted lift passes are available for children.

The slopes in Verbier are quite challenging on the whole with the main ‘home run’ to the Medran lift being particularly tricky, so choosing a chalet on the Savoleyres side of the village can be a better option. A great example of this is the chalet Hameau which is only a couple of minutes’ walk from the beginners’ slopes. Another great advantage of being on the Savoleyres side of town is that you miss out on a lot of the noise from Verbier’s lively nightlife, and you are close to the on-slope childcare that is provided by a number of chalet operators. However, most of the ski schools do start and finish at the Medran lift so a bus journey is usually necessary - have a word with one of our sales consultants about where the best located chalets are for your family, particularly if you are travelling with younger children.

There are beginners slopes in Verbier, so there’s no need to rule this resort out if you have beginners in your family. There are ski schools that accept children as young as 3 and new magic carpet lifts have been installed in the Esserts beginner area. Verbier is the ideal resort for families who are confident on blue runs, and those with older children. The 4 Valleys lift pass lets you onto over 100 lifts, giving you access to around 400km of pistes. Verbier offers excellent off-piste opportunities and a terrain park for snowboarders to practice their tricks. Advanced skiers can take the Jumbo Mont Fort cable car up to the glacier and the Tortin bowl with its famous bumps.

The resort itself operates year-round so there is plenty to occupy non-skiers or those afternoons when you fancy taking a break from the slopes to spend some time together as a family. Activities includes ice karting, husky sledding, parasailing and a huge toboggan run. Indoors, you can enjoy swimming at the sports centre or perhaps take in a film at the cinema. Verbier is a safe and compact resort so teenagers can enjoy some freedom; those old enough will find plenty of pubs and bars. Of course, you can also spend your evenings relaxing in your chalet or hotel.
